Multi-Modal Supply Corridor
Procurement, consolidation and multi-modal movement of tactical and non-tactical equipment along a corridor combining sea, air and road legs.
- Capability
- Supply Chain & Material Management
- Location
- Europe to East Africa
- Engagement
- Recurring resupply programme

What we were handed
Equipment was being procured in Europe and needed reliably at sites in East Africa, but no single transport mode covered the route. Sea freight was economic and slow, air freight was fast and expensive, and the final road leg ran through territory where schedules could not be assumed. The client had no consolidated view of what was in transit, so shortages were discovered at the destination rather than anticipated in advance.
What we did about it
We took procurement, consolidation and movement as one scope. Orders were consolidated in Europe before departure, then routed across sea, air and road legs according to urgency rather than habit, with the expensive air leg reserved for genuinely time-critical materiel. Real-time monitoring and reporting gave the client one view of every shipment in the corridor, and inventory management was tailored to mission-specific requirements so resupply was triggered by consumption rather than by calendar.
Approach
How the work was sequenced
- Procurement and delivery of tactical and non-tactical equipment under one scope
- Consolidation in Europe ahead of departure to reduce fragmented shipments
- Mode selected per consignment by urgency, reserving air freight for time-critical materiel
- Warehousing and inventory management tailored to mission-specific requirements
- Real-time monitoring giving one view of everything in the corridor
- Fleet maintenance and recovery cover across the road leg
What changed as a result
- 3 modes
- Sea, air and road combined on one corridor
- One view
- Consolidated visibility of materiel in transit
- Consumption
- Resupply triggered by usage, not by calendar
- Reserved
- Air freight limited to time-critical consignments
